Employee engagement occurs more readily when employees do tasks that brings them satisfaction, when they are given autonomy, and when they work in an organization that makes a difference. Leaders in organizations with high levels of engagement do not view these nonfinancial benefits simply as afterthoughts.
Nobody should dread going to work in the morning. To achieve and maintain success, leaders must be vigilant and focused on creating and sustaining a happy and supportive work environment with high employee morale.
Vision gives us a sense of purpose and guides us as we work in the present. Visionary leaders energize and inspire people to work toward a future goal. They are able to clearly and vividly communicate what the future holds.
Much of what organizations accomplish can be traced back to employee selection. Taking the time to create the right process for bringing in people who fit both the job and the culture of the organization is essential.
It is far more motivating to work in an organization that values creativity and innovation than one that is sterile and stuck. A leader who values innovation creates a culture that embraces and empowers employees to be part of the innovative process in all aspects of the organization’s work.
Effective leaders learn to delegate because it frees up time for them to address the issues that only they can do or that they can do best. Delegation is not merely a way to lighten your own workload, it also serves to increase the motivation and competence of those who you have delegated to.

The ability to be honest with yourself about your strengths, and more importantly, your weaknesses, is essential for leading an organization. Focusing on strengths, while working to mitigate the impact of weaknesses, requires leaders to have a high level of self-awareness.
Without a focus on productivity, organizations become irrelevant and fail. Productivity, for both individuals and organizations, should always come down to how we get things done. It’s not just a matter of working hard.
Passion, as well as a lack of passion, is contagious. No one has ever been inspired by a leader who is not passionate. If you want to have a passionate, inspired workforce, it must begin with you, the leader. Passion inspires others to join and identify with your vision.

Great leaders walk through life continuously curious about the way things work. They read as much as they can, listen to new ideas, and meet other people who are doing great things.
